Grandma Ruffolo

Emily D'Angelo was born on March 1, 1893 in Chicago, Illinois. When I was born, she was 48 years old. She was a tiny little lady and loved to keep her house so tidy. She had one sister named Rose. Her parents died in the 1920's before she came to California. She has two children still living, Uncle Jack in Bakersfield and Aunt Thresa in Desert Hot Springs. She loved to bake biscotti cookies and made cream cheese sandwiches at the beach. We like to remember her on her birthday, she would absolutely be thrilled to see how her family has grown. As my mother would say, "Happy Birthday Mom." -Mom

We should bake some biscotti for her, in honor of her birthday. Come on over, Mom!

Oh, I love this post and I love this picture.
Mom looks so happy and tiny on her graduation day.
She still looks so happy and tiny on any old day!
Isn't it wonderful that we all bring our cutting boards and sour dough bread to the beach to make cream cheese sandwiches because our mother did it, and so did her grandmother?
Here's to biscotti and cream cheese sandwiches.
And let's not forget Pistachio almond ice cream.

As soon as I read this post I said to myself, "So THAT'S why we always had cream cheese and bread at the beach!" I honestly don't think there's any better snack than that on a beach day. I miss it a lot and it will always be my favorite beach snack. Tradition!
