Autumn

Am I the only one who thinks that Fall is the best season of all?
Maybe I am biased because of the birthday season....?? I don't think so though.

You've got the bright changing colors, harvest time, pumpking patches, apple picking, BYU football, Halloween, delicious food (see Erin's blog), hoodie weather, school supplies, Thanksgiving, did I mention birthdays?, and just that comfy stay home feeling.
I love it and had to just send a quick 'shout out' for my favorite season which officially began on Monday (and so did this post until it was interrupted :)

This is a poem that I love to read in Susan Branch's Autumn Book:

Vagabond Song
There is something in the autumn that is native to my blood ---
Touch of manner, hint of mood;
And my heart is like a rhyme,
With the yellow and crimson keeping time.
The scarlet of the maples can shake me like a cry
Of bugles going by.
And my lonely spirit thrills
To see the frosty asters like a smoke upon the hills.
There is something in October sets the gypsy blood astir;
We must rise and follow her,
When from every hill of flame
She calls and calls each vagabond by name.
---- Bliss Carman

SOME IDEAS FOR YOUR HOME (from Susan Branch--many adopted by mother)

  • Lamps are cozier and make much prettier light than celing lights.

  • Gather/Display games and puzzles for cozy nights at home.
  • Brew mulling spices, particularly when friends come over.
  • Display old favorite books (Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, Wuthering Heights....)

  • An old clock that ticks sounds wonderful on quiet nights.

  • Quilts make great tablecloths.

  • Candles, Candles, Candles surrounded by autumn windfall and a fire in the fireplace.

Some MUST ENJOY Autumn Time Favorites (Please feel free to add some in comments!):

Multimedia: Meet Me In St. Louis, To Kill A Mockingbird (book and movie), Rebecca, The Birds, Woman in White, Arsenic and Old Lace, The Great Pumpkin, The Ghost of Mrs. Muir, Disney's Halloween Treat, Ichabod's Sleepy Hollow....

Food: Doughnuts, chili, cinnamon rolls, apple pie, fritters, nachos, chili dogs, pumpkin chocolate chip bread, cookies, and cider...(again, see Erin's blog)

HAPPY AUTUMN TIME!

I must say that I am biased as well for I(Alex) celebrate my birthday as too. But, honestly, after a hot summer who doesn't enjoy the change of temperature and watching life around you change color as we start to prepare for our favorite holidays. Two thumbs way up for the fall season! Plus hockey season is right around the corner!!!

Heidi,
You found the best pictures. Those puzzles will always remind me of Mom.
I am laughing because all our blogs sound exactly the same. We all get excited over the exact same things.
I wrote a big post about being born in our favorite season like Tootie being born in her favorite city.
And I mentioned Susan Branch too.
I look at everyone else's blog and think mine is the dullest thing on earth. I have nothing good to go with it.
Anyway, love the pictures, puzzles, donuts, and Meet Me In St. Louis!
And....one more great thing about Fall. All the new shows start! The Office is on Tonight! Finally!

Love at the new layout, the music, and all of your delightful pictures! Our whole family loves fall. Does anyone else have a different favorite season?
On a side note-Keeping the Faith is not a fall movie but your music is certainly making we want to watch it! Happy Autumn to you too dearest Heidi!

Thank you all for tolerating my posting disappearance. Every few weeks I become really boring and have nothing new to say :).
I want a doughnut too Leslie. When I come down in a few weeks, we will have to get us some. And yes, with the Office starting tonight I feel like it is my best friend's homecoming. I love that show.

Blogmother or blogmaster, Autumn is such a hoot, but thats what I love about doughnuts, is they are good all year round. I thank my activity in the Church to doughnuts, I mean what was really the motivation to get up for seminary? Thats right, Doughnuts.

I just need to tell you that you think the pictures on my blog are scary this Mt. Me in St.Louis ones gives me the creeps..Scary stuff.
