WE GATHER TOGETHER...

THANKSGIVING

Upon my desk sits colorful photos
Of the Thanksgiving Feast that is about to approach.
I can picture in my mind just the right way that the day should go.
We’ll put on the turkey at early morn
So we can remove it to prepare the rich gravy.
We’ll chop the celery and onion for the yummy dressing,
Roll out the rich dough for the light white rolls.
The Corn chowder, we will have fixed the day before
Along with the yams and green beans,
The pies will be ready and some cookies, too.
During the month of November we will be thinking
All about those early Pilgrim wives. How much more sanitary
Our meal will be, the turkey will be plucked and cleaned.
The potatoes will be from an instant mix and everything
Will have been purchased at the colorful supermarket.
No people from the wilds will be joining us,
Just the moms and dads and little ones.
We won’t have traveled by sea or through storms.
We’ll arrive in bright shiny car.
Our heads will be bowed as thank our Creator
For the abundance we share.
The flowers on the tables will be fresh and lovely
And we will be dressed in our Sunday best.
We will sing the songs of the Pilgrims and
Know that out of all the days of the years;
This one Thursday afternoon, we gather
As in days of old, to be grateful and quiet
To walk among the fall leaves and ponder
The beauty of this home we call earth.
