THE PIONEER TREK by Barbara Ann Renouf
It’s a long harsh trail that the children of the valiant trod.
It weaves along deep ravines, gorges difficult to travail
And raging, treacherous rivers.
Careless and headstrong, the young venture forth.
Alas, some ignore the warnings posted of polluted water,
Wild roaming animals that devour
And menacing prairie winds.
The valiant watch in alarm.
Their warnings go unheeded
As the children wander away from the safety of the fold;
Following dangerous paths and switchbacks
Caution is thrown to the wind.
What can be done as the vanguard must move ahead ?
With heavy hearts the wagon train departs
Alarms and pleadings go unheeded.
Filled with sorrowing hearts, the valiant must leave
Eyes look to the heavens for a miracle.
Must the young be abandoned as they recklessly stray?
Can the voices of reason prevail?
It is not possible to secure a search for a rescue;
The youth must choose to return when they are ready
The valiant will plead and pray and wisely leave it in God’s hands.
